Makin' your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Takin' a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go, where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same,
You wanna be where everybody knows your name.
You wanna go where people know, people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows your name.
Cheers Theme Song -

Remember this show from the 80's? I think the Paper Pals stores are a lot like the Cheers bar! Our customers know us by name and we know a lot of them by name. It is a gathering place for women of all ages to create, get inspired and record their life stories! We get to find out who has had a new baby, a new grandchild, who has suffered a loss, a new job or is moving away! It is so neat to see our customers run into friends they have not seen in awhile and they catch up on each others lives. It is amazing to me how a stranger becomes a new friend after their first visit! This is the kind of business I have worked so hard to create - a place where we really get to KNOW each other - we SHARE our lives with each other and we are always GLAD you came!
This is a really beautiful message. Your stores are very much like the Deli, it's a comfortable place to come to, the local people are wonderful, we know them almost all by name and that is amazing to them all. They always say, how are you able to remember us all by name? Well, when you see them several times a week and you like them, you remember them. It's that simple.

I knew after the first couple of times I came into Paper Pals that is was that kind of place..a place where it's fun to be!! I'm not as good at names as you are, but I'm working on it!!!
ReplyDeleteI miss the store and you ladies now that I've moved away .... Paper Pals really was a saving grace for me and the year we were in Pullman. Shawna was the first person to know my name and I will always remember that. Realizing that someone knew who I was --- I wasn't invisible anymore.
ReplyDeleteYou do have the best job and the best business, Karen, and you certainly impact people more than you realize.
Wow! I can't agree with you more. Every word of this is true. When I go to Paper Pals I feel like I'm going to a good friend's house, well, except for the whole temptation to purchase everything I see. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone's comments and your post. The hard part is it is like leaving a family member when you move. I am in mourning of the store and you and Shawna's smiling faces. Shawna was also the first person to acknowledge me by name when we moved there and that did make a big difference in my life there. I started to feel like I exsisted and could start to like Pullman if I wanted to. Thank you and I miss you guys!!
