Grocery Shop your Own Kitchen!

One of our families biggest dilemmas every day is figuring out "what's for dinner!" When I was a stay at home mom, I would make weekly menus and plan my grocery list from that and have a homemade meal almost every night. But, now that I work full-time I am really struggling with finding the time or energy to get this done. I really love to cook and miss it! I am so blessed to have a husband who will go grocery shopping and make dinners for us, but we are making the same three meals over and over again!

One of my customers shared with me this great website -
Cindy's Porch. I am really excited about it. Yes, it is going to take time to get organized and take the inventories - but I am hoping it will help us save money and time in the long run.

How do you all do it? Any tips or hints? Favorite Recipes?

  1. I don't have any suggestions...but if you find a magic answer please share it with me.

This does sound like a great idea. I may start working on it too!

  2. Karen, some things I do:

Buy frozen chicken tenderloins and cook the whole package at one time. You've got chicken for casseroles, salads, stir fry, etc, ready to go.

A quick and easy dinner: beat enough eggs for your family for dinner. Spray a pan with olive oil, heat, then and pour in the beaten eggs. Add handfuls of spinach to your taste. Stir until the eggs are cooked and the spinach is done (about 5 minutes). Add grated cheese before serving. Simple and good!

Make a big pot of soup or chili on the weekend and use it for quick meals during the week.

Cook rice on weekends in large batches. Put in freezer containers and freeze. Heat in a microwave and you've got a good start on lots of meals.

Buy thin-cut beef that cooks quickly for stir-fry and other dishes.

If you're dieting (who isn't?) don't eat any carbs after 4pm. That simplifies dinner--veggies and meat/protein in a salad or stir fry! My youngest son gave me this tip. I'm following his advice and have lost 12 pounds in 2 months.
