Sunday Scribblings

Money! Oh my can I write about that! I have tendencies to be a "bit" compulsive at times and that trait can be a real issue when it comes to money. I am a doer, a go getter, a "if I want it now then I will get it now" type of person. I think I got that from my Dad. My Dad, who I love so much, would just buy it if he wanted it! I think growing up we had a different car or truck every month! No, just kidding, maybe every a 6 months. My Dad worked hard for his money, and I think I got my work ethic from him and my Mom. They both worked their whole lives. My Dad was a lineman for the power company in southern Oregon. He would work hours of overtime each month to provide for our family and to make those truck payments! Growing up, I never felt like we were poor or rich, we were pretty much middle class.

My childhood was a complete opposite of my Dads. He was the oldest of 8 brothers and sisters and grew up in Chicago. He dropped out of school and started working at the age of 14 or so. He had to work to support his family and kept on working his whole life. I think his spending habits, that I have inherited, developed from those times in his life when he had nothing. When he had a family of his own, he made sure we always had what we needed and what we wanted. It was one of the ways he showed us that he loved us. I learned at a young age that if I wanted something I had to work for it. Whether it be chores around the house, babysitting jobs or one of the many part-time jobs I worked - if I wanted something I could have it - but you had to work for it.

One of these days, I am going to sit down and write a list of all of the jobs I have had in my life. I started babysitting and house sitting when I was 12 or 13. My first "real" job was working at a pizza parlor making pizza's when I was in High School. I have worked a ton of waitress/food service jobs - from McDonalds to a truck stop cafe, I know I can always make a dime dishin' out chow! I have worked on a horse farm, driven a fork lift in a warehouse, cleaned houses and offices and counted inventory in grocery stores. I have worked in several offices; been a medical secretary, a medical coder and an office manager. I ran a day care out of my home, worked as a stew on a yacht, sold Stampin' Up stamps, helped cook for a sorority and now own my own businesses. I have worked in several states; Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Wisconsin, Georgia and Alaska. Again, can you say "impulsive!" If anything, I know that I can and will be able to support my family, just like my Dad, no matter what type of job I have to get to do it!

So, even though I may not be the best at saving money or managing money, I am not afraid of making money and am one of the hardest working woman out there!
